Supermarine Walrus
Designed by R.J Mitchell, the Walrus was a catapult launched biplane amphibian powered by a Bristol Pegasus 9-cylinder radial pusher engine. Deployed in WWII primarily for SAR (search and rescue) missions, the "Shagbat" as she was affectionately known, saved the lives of many downed airmen, as well as being used in spotter & attach roles.
These aircraft were responsible for the sinking of several enemy submarines and it was a Walrus that located the German battecruiser Scharnhorst in June 1940.
