Hawker Hurricane
I've attached a couple of photo's of a Hawker Hurricane that I recently finished. The model is built for the Flying Aces Club WW-II Combat event.
Wingspan is 23 inches and weight without rubber is 35 grams. The wing is removable and held in place with 8 tiny earth magnets, four each in the wing and fuse. The gold dots in the photo where the model is apart are the magnets.
The spinner and intake scoops are made from blue foam, coated with white glue and then painted and glued in place. Insignia are cut from tissue and doped in place. All tissue, with the exception of the insignia, but including the camo patterns was chalked with good grade artists chalk after the parts were covered. The chalk makes the tissue more opaque and keeps it from fading.
Final coats are a Krylon Fixative to set the chalk and a coat of Krylon Flat. All Krylon is just dusted on from a spray can. Machine guns (required by FAC for this event) are 1/16 aluminum tube set into the leading edge.
Airplane is modeled after Squadron Leader R. R. Stanford Tucks bird flown during and directly after the Battle of Britain. Documentation from Profile Publications..
