Red Stick Classic 2017 Results


The weather was threatening and it did rain Saturday until 2 p.m., however Wednesday competitors began arriving in anticipation of the Red Stick Classic RC Scale contest in Baton Rouge, LA. Actually the contest is in the middle of a huge bean field on a four acre plot with three thousand square feet of sun shelter, outdoor kitchen and small barn to store airplanes. The best part is a no obstacle manicured one thousand foot grass runway. Due to the weather many contestants did not attend this year, however there were seventeen entries flying two rounds on Saturday afternoon in beautiful weather and a further three rounds on a perfect Sunday for a total of five rounds. Over $1500 in prizes was awarded to the contestants and following are the results:

Michael Smith had the highest Static with his Piper L-4 at 99.5 with Ben Andrus’ Ag Cat at 98.00 and Jeffrey Pike’s The New Cub at 96.00. The NASA Bob Lirette  was awared to Micheal Smith and his Piper L-4 and the high flight award was given to Ben Andrus and his Super Cub with a high score for four rounds of 380.250.

Saturday while it was raining the Baton Rouge RC Club cooked authentic Jambalaya in a big black pot over an outdoor fire at the field that was enjoyed along with a pot of white beans by all the folks that braved the morning weather.
