2012 FAI Scale World Championships News
At the April CIAM meeting in Lausanne the decision will be made on the location of the 2012 FAI Scale World Championships. Today I received a CD and Power Point presentation on the bid from Spain. This came from the Spanish representative Agustin Sevilla.
The area of Spain is north of Madrid among the Pyrenees mountains and the Aragon region. The Santa Cilia Airport near Los Pirinos has both a glider port as well as a paved runway for both full scale and model flying. It appears that there are several towns near the airport and plenty of activities for families also.
As soon as I can, I will make copies of these two presentations and send them to both Mark and Ted for their views so they can post them in both the website and newsletter. The items lacking from this presentation are the costs and nuts and bolts of the event, but there is plenty of time to put these together.
Agustin states that "We are in contact with Iberia Airlines to get an arrangement for discounts in the tickets for the model boxes of the competitors, coming to the championships by this airline."
There is another bid from my information which I have not seen, nor do I have any details at all, but the country is China.

President's Notes, January 2010
Greetings NASA members this is my first official act since I was elected your president. As with many of the clubs I belong, the newsletter is the backbone of the organization. I will do my best each month to come up with a topic for discussion and pictures of members’ projects. I will keep you informed of changes within our organization. One of the first will be reported by Ted in this addition, it concerns the incorporation of NASA. We are incorporating as most companies or clubs do, to protect the officers. Now days it seems much easier than 37 years ago when my company was incorporated, quite a myriad of paper work back then.
I am sure I am no different, that when it is too cold for the dog and the cat to go outside it is time to build something or finish an old project. The start to my building time is usually a couple of days of shop clean up. These days of discovery of missed placed tools and parts are my start to more efficient building time. Now the paint room cleaning is a different story, this is just nasty work of dusting and washing all those items that I was too lazy to cover while painting. This job is ideal for my friend Matthew, 16 years old, who is eager to learn how to build and paint. He is a great pilot I will introduce him to the fine points of clean up. I am blessed with an ample shop area just about 3500 sq. ft. but this sometimes causes problems. So much room you don’t clean up anything until it is all a big blob. This week end I will have a couple of modelers over for consultation on their projects. Not really they just want to use the paint booth.
I would like to hear from the membership about your winter projects. You can e mail me at: Mabarbee@aol.com Now I am putting some finishing changes on the Raytheon T-6-A turbo prop I had at Toledo last year. I have not flown the plane but all the prop testing and hi speed taxi tests are complete. I hope to fly this one at Top Gun; this will be my first contest of 2010
I have another project underway; it is a T-34-C model. Although this is also a turbo prop I am using a unique engine, it is a 3-W 110 with inline cylinders. Enough about me and my projects I would like to hear from you with questions , concerns , or just plane bragging.
I plan to attend the Toledo show. Please stop by the booth and introduce yourself. I also plan to have what I am calling the NASA Summit meeting there. We will have one of the conference rooms for a get together of members and interested guests to discuss the direction of our organization and any other concerns you may have. Time and place will be announced at the show. I hope to see you there.

The overall return was 47% and there were several glowing comments on the quality of the slate of officers. There seems to be a high level of interest in NASA and support for our new leaders, especially among our members who invested a 44 cent stamp to vote.
New officers take the reins at midnight New Years Eve.
