Richard Schneider (F4B)

Richard is close to 70 years old, and has been married to his wife, Carole, for 50 years. They have a son and a daughter.

He is a retired Aeronautical and Transportation Engineer, with experience in structural load analysis and transportation systems planning. He has been involved in model airplane building, flying and associated activities since childhood. His predominant interest has been control line scale, but he also has interests and participates in stunt, racing, carrier, and some RC. He’s also done some free flight, and is presently trying to figure out the mysteries of the various free flight scale disciplines, mostly indoor.

His competition activities in CL scale began in the late 1950's and since about 1990 have focused on competing and judging at the Nationals and the F4B Team Trials. He was a member of the 1992 US Scale Team in Muncie, IN, was a Team Supporter in 2002 in Tillsonburg, Canada, and was Assistant Team Manager in Sweden in 2006. He has been Event Director for Scale at the past three Brodak Fly-Ins, is currently the District 5 representative on the AMA Scale Contest Board, and will be the Assistant Team Manager this year in Poland.

The model he will compete with in Poland this summer is a 1/8 scale Ryan "Spirit of St. Louis". It is electric-powered, with a 69" wing span, and an expected ready to fly weight of about 8 pounds. An electronic throttle control will be used.
